A LEADING North East firm of solicitors which puts people development and colleague engagement high on its priorities has had its commitment acknowledged after receiving a prestigious award.

EMG Solicitors, which has branches at Durham, Newcastle and most recently, Penrith, has been awarded the Investors in People silver award.

And the globally recognised award – for people management, wellbeing and individual success – is particularly impressive as it was awarded after the company’s first assessment.

It is the latest in a long line of achievements for the firm, which as well as providing top level services to its clients, attracts professionals who are leaders in their field because of their commitment to their team.

EMG, which provides services across Court of Protection, Wills Trusts and Probate, family, employment, residential conveyancing and commercial property also holds a top tier ranking in the Legal 500 guide to the UK’s best law firms

In the past year it has expanded its team, taking on an additional 23 new colleagues and has put various measures in place to enable hybrid working while ensuring those working from home still felt fully engaged.

As a result the firm achieved The Better Health at Work Gold Award which recognises the efforts of colleagues in the North East and Cumbria in addressing health issues within the workplace.

Through its assessment EMG ranked 67 out of 2169 organisations in the 50 to 249 employees size bracket in the Investors in People assessment and scored an overall total of 817 out of a possible 900 – the average in the legal sector is 729 and, across all organisations, 727.

In addition, EMG Solicitors was ranked within the Top 20 Silver ‘We invest in people employer’ UK wide, resulting in the firm being invited to enter The Investors in People Awards 2022.

Ian Burke, Head of People and Culture at EMG said the award was “an amazing achievement” and thanked his 98 colleagues, “for making this happen, both in their commitment to the firm, in the excellent work they deliver and also in the contribution they made to the Investors in People process.”

And managing director, Emma Gaudern ,said the company will use the Investors in People report to “continue to improve our employer offering and maintain our work with the Investors in People standard.”

“We are delighted with this silver status but we are aiming for gold now,” she said.

“The fact that people are happy and want to come to work here filters down to the clients, where everyone is so committed to putting the clients first and doing the best job for them.
