Josh Horne

Paralegal

Job Role at EMG

I am a paralegal within the Court of Protection (Health and Welfare) department until my training contract commences in September 2023.

Experience

In 2020, I achieved a first class honours in Law (with European legal studies) for my undergraduate degree at Newcastle University.

Once I graduated, I became a Relevant Person’s Representative (RPR), advocating on behalf of those which had been deprived of their liberty. Whilst this role was difficult, it was very rewarding, often being the only support that an individual may have. This started my interest within Court of Protection and ultimately led me to become a Public Law and Human Rights Paralegal at a national law firm. My day-to-day duties consisted of working on cases which involved human right infringements, as well as working on cases within the Court of Protection.

I have since joined EMG Solicitors and am excited to be working within an area of law that I am passionate about. I am excited to not only utilise my in-depth knowledge about the Court of Protection, but also develop my knowledge in other fields such as Mental Health.

What do you like about working at EMG?

The people and culture at EMG Solicitors is what makes it a totally unique firm. Everyday is different but being able to work alongside such inspiring and friendly work colleagues makes coming to work everyday enjoyable.  An added bonus is also the plethora of snacks which float around the office .

Outside of EMG

In my spare time, I enjoy going to theatre performances, as well as local and national drag shows. I am also a qualified scuba diver but am not brave enough to face the freezing cold north sea. As such, I enjoy going on holiday abroad to warmer climates, to scuba dive, snorkel and learn more about other cultures.
