Michelle Wright
Costs Lawyer
Job Role at EMG
I am a Costs Lawyer at the firm and joined EMG in April 2024. I spend most of my time preparing Bills of Costs for our Court of Protection Team, assisting the team to recover their legal fees for the work they have undertaken, whilst ensuring costs are claimed in accordance with LAA, OPG and SCCO guidance.
Experience
I obtained an LLB (Hons) in Law at Cumbria University in 2011 and subsequently began working for a local legal costs firm. I started my career by preparing bills for personal injury and clinical negligence matters. I subsequently embarked on the ACL Costs Lawyer course and qualified as a Costs Lawyer in 2018. That same year, I began to focus on areas of private client practice, specifically Court of Protection, and have specialised in this area ever since. I now have over 12 years of experience in legal costs.
What do you like about working at EMG?
I have really enjoyed transitioning into a role where I work in-house alongside fee earners, to assist them with their cost recovery. I find it helps me gain increased awareness and understanding of the work they do and allows me to provide a more personalised approach with costs advice and training. The culture at EMG is exceptional, the values aren’t just something written on the website, but are implemented on every level at the firm. There is a real sense of a shared common purpose and that makes you feel proud to come to work every day.
Outside of EMG?
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my husband and two rescue greyhounds Max and Mabel. I also love to sing and am a member of my community choir. I have recently qualified as a Samaritan, and I am loving this new challenge and learning lots along the way. To relax, I am usually found cooking or with my head in a good book.
