Rachael Leathley

Senior Associate Solicitor

Job Role at EMG

I am a Senior Associate in the Wills, Trusts and Probate team. I help people plan for the future and the challenges that can bring through succession plannings, Wills, Powers of Attorney and tax planning.

Experience

I have dealt with a range of Private Client matters throughout my career, from trust administrations and drafting to administering high value estates (including those with agricultural, business and/or foreign assets) and preparing Wills. I have been involved in negotiations with HMRC and the District Valuer, Capital Gains and Inheritance Tax planning, succession planning for businesses and the winding up of large family Trusts. I have worked in Private Client since qualifying as a Solicitor over 10 years ago. It is a really rewarding career – helping people often in the most difficult of circumstances, but also with the transition of wealth and philanthropy.

I am a full member of Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) – a specialist qualification in my area of law – having passed with distinction.

What do you like about working at EMG?

EMG’s values and commitment to people really align with the type of Solicitor I want to be. There is a strong focus on providing exceptional service in a professional, friendly and approachable way.

Outside of EMG?

I sit on the Women’s Fund for the Community Foundation. I enjoy a regular North Sea dip, attempting to grow things, lots of reading and an adventure with my family.
