Rachael Stabler
Solicitor
Job Role at EMG
I joined EMG Solicitors in January 2021 as a Solicitor in the Court of Protection Team. This means that I work with professional deputies and trustees to assist clients in dealing with their property and financial affairs when they do not have the capacity to do this for themselves. It may be that someone has suffered a brain injury as a result of natural causes or they may have suffered life changing injuries as a result of a road traffic accident or an accident at work. I work with clients to support them in making decisions for themselves whenever possible. If it is not possible for someone to make a decision for themselves, I work with them, their families and a number of professionals to make sure that decisions are made with their best interests in mind. These decisions range from everyday expenditure to living arrangements, care plans and financial investments.
Experience
I started working in a law firm part time in 2006 when I was studying at Northumbria University for my Law Degree. I started out by helping clients to claim compensation after being the victim of a violent crime. When I graduated, I continued to work for the same high street law firm and I remained there until 2018. Throughout my time with this firm I gained some experience in Employment Law, Wills Trusts and Probate and Noise Induced Hearing Loss but my main role was in Personal Injury Litigation, working on both low and high value claims. It was through working in high value litigation that I first gained experience of working with the Court of Protection. In 2018 I moved to another North East law firm carrying out public liability and employer’s liability claims until I joined EMG Solicitors in January 2021.
What do you like about working at EMG Solicitors?
From the moment I walked into EMG I knew it was for me. I was immediately made to feel welcome and the kindness I felt that day has continued since. Every day I see people being warm towards each other, showing support and giving help when needed. I quickly realised that this is the reason everyone is so perfect for the jobs they do as they demonstrate the empathy and compassion that are absolutely vital when dealing with the sensitive nature of the issues faced by clients.
Outside of EMG
Whenever I’m not at work you can usually find me playing Paw Patrol with my 3 year old son, Peppa Pig with my 1 year old niece or building forts with my 8 year old nephew. I usually love going to the cinema, attending Konga classes and I’m a keen line dancer but at the minute I spend any free time binge watching Netflix and eating lots of chocolate!
