Richard Swinbank

Director and Head of Residential Conveyancing

Job Role at EMG

I am a Director at the firm and joined EMG as an Associate Solicitor specialising in residential property in December 2015. The majority of my work involves the buying, selling and refinancing of houses. I have strong communication skills and enjoy building up a rapport with clients when advising them on their transaction. I understand that communication is key when dealing with clients in what can be a stressful time and this is something I enjoy managing.

Experience

I qualified as a solicitor in 2007 and have worked in and around the North East during this time acting for clients all over the country. My team and I won The Law Society Excellence in Conveyancing Award in 2017 which I am still very proud of and this has helped maintain the excellent level of client care which we provide. I have acted for developers and individual clients buying their first home and everything in between but would not say I have seen everything! Almost every day a new challenge arises which is something I really enjoy about my role, as no day is the same. I now manage a team of 6 across two offices whilst maintaining a full caseload, many of whom are previous clients.

What do you like about working at EMG?

There is relaxed atmosphere but everyone works hard and knows what they have to do. We have an open door policy at the firm which has meant that any queries from colleagues can be dealt with quickly so that the clients transaction will run smoothly. We have staff perks which most recently included a sausage making class which was actually great fun and not something I would have never thought of doing previously!

Outside of EMG?

I am Dad to two daughters who are 11 years old and 20 months so this keeps me busy with park visits etc. I am a huge car fan and enjoy anything with an engine that is quick and sounds good. I am also partial to a craft beer or two.

Richard qualified in September 2007.
