Ruby Knapton

Trainee Legal Executive

Job Role at EMG

I am a Trainee Legal Executive working in the Court of Protection Health and Welfare department at EMG and I joined the firm in May 2022. I have started building up a case load representing clients who have been assessed to lack capacity to make decisions in relation to their care and support needs. I have also been instructed to represent family members of the person who lacks capacity as well as Relevant Persons Representatives in their own right.

I have worked within the legal sector since 2017 where I began my legal journey as an admin assistant in Residential Conveyancing, where I stayed for two years. I very quickly became fascinated by the legal profession and in 2019 I began my training to qualify as a CILEx Lawyer. From 2019-2020 I worked within the Care Proceedings team at my previous firm which helped develop my skills with legal aid and court processes, as well as working closely with counsel during many contested final hearings. I have finally settled within the Court of Protection sector having experience in both Health & Welfare and Property & Affairs helping some of the most vulnerable, it is a pleasure to do this job everyday and feel as though I have made a difference.

What do you like about working at EMG?

EMG is a fantastic firm to work for. They’re charitable, friendly and hardworking. My team and the firm as a whole have been so welcoming since joining and I enjoy coming into work every day.

Outside of EMG?

I began horse riding in February 2022, it is a hobby which I have always wanted to pursue so I thought to myself that this year, I would go for it! I’m thoroughly enjoying getting out in the fresh air on the weekends for hacks in the countryside or working on the more technical side of things in the arena. I also enjoy trying new restaurants and spending time with my partner and our French Bulldog, Peanut.
