Sarah-Lyn Strong

Senior Associate Solicitor

Job Role at EMG

I am a Senior Associate Solicitor at the firm based in our Penrith office. I joined EMG in October 2022, shortly after the Penrith office opened. Whilst I am based in the Court of Protection Health & Welfare department and most of my workload is made up of those cases, I also accept cases in the broader areas of adult social care work such as displacement of nearest relative proceedings, continuing healthcare issues and advice about care and support under the Care Act 2014/s117 Mental Health Act 1983. Where appropriate, I conduct my own court advocacy but I also work with counsel to ensure the best service for my clients.

The majority of my cases involve acting for the incapacitated adult through a litigation friend, such as an advocate or the Official Solicitor but I also act for individuals directly where they are a party to proceedings involving an incapacitated family member. I run a busy case load but also assist other fee earners including supervising less experienced (but still wonderful) members of the team.

I graduated from Northumbria University with LLB (Hons) exempting degree in 2012. I then undertook a training contract in Cumbria County Council and qualified as a solicitor in February 2015. I remained at Cumbria County Council until August 2021, having been the lead contact within the legal department for the implementation of the Care Act 2014, the remodelling of its Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards team and all coronavirus queries and policies during the pandemic. After that, I made the leap into private practice, working as a community care solicitor before I started this role.

What do you like about working at EMG?

I enjoy being part of a team that genuinely wants to do the best they can for our clients. We are generally supporting our clients through a particularly difficult time in their lives when they are coming into contact with lots of different professionals. As a team, we know that, and really spend time listening to our clients and talking them through the process in a way that makes sense to them.

Outside of EMG?

I’m a textbook introvert. You’ll find me either under a blanket with a book and my rescue cat or working on whatever art or craft project has caught my eye most recently.
