EMG in the Community
EMG Community Fund
We place a huge value on family – our family at work, home and the wider areas in which we work.
EMG Solicitors care passionately about our community and enjoy many positive relationships with charities across the UK. The sectors we specialise in mean that we see first-hand some of the fantastic work they do, and we use our business skills and charitable giving to help a range of charities and voluntary organisations.
Our people tell us this is really important to them and in 2019 we set up our own EMG Charitable Fund with Point North (formally County Durham Community Foundation) and in 2023, we became Corporate Members of Cumbria Community Foundation. Working with both grant making organisations, we help support our local communities through charitable giving across all regions in which we operate.
Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda covers:
- Our EMG Charitable Fund*
- Pro Bono work for local charities
- Board and trustee appointments
- Fundraising
- Giving voluntary time to charitable initiatives
- Our WonderLAN Ball (raising money each year for Headway UK – a brain injury charity)
- Supporting the arts and local art sponsorship – major sponsor of Durham Lumiere
- Supporting local hospices (St Cuthberts 88 Club & St Oswald’s)
- Commitment to our sustainability agenda
- Our equality and diversity programme
*We do our charitable giving through Point North who manage a fund on our behalf and provide grants to local organisations.
To apply for funding, please go to their website www.pointnorth.org.uk and follow the link for the Community Grants programme. Point North manage a range of funds so if we aren’t able to support your organisation, they may be able to help you source other grant funding.
Lumiere Sponsorship
EMG Solicitors is proud to have sponsored of the Lumiere Festival in Durham since 2017.
Organised by Artichoke, Lumiere is a light art biennial and has been transforming cities across the UK since 2009. Each Lumiere festival invites local and international artists to create works that reimagine buildings and public spaces, changing the way we experience our environment and the dark, winter nights. This amazing festival brings together hundreds of thousands of visitors from across the world.
EMG Solicitors have sponsored installations as well as the festival’s ‘BRILLIANT ’commissioning scheme which is aimed at encouraging anyone, not just artists, to suggest their brightest idea for an artwork as part of the Lumiere programme.
Our Artwork
Around our offices you might see some of our Court of Protection client’s artwork. Our Court of Protection team deals with a number of clients who have an acquired brain injury and art can often be a great recovery tool and outlet for them.
Office Mascots
We are proud to be supporters of the Wild in Art sculpture trails which raise money for St Oswald’s Hospice. We have supported the trails since 2016 and have sponsored three sculptures which greet the clients visiting our offices.
- Spocky Dog – Located in the Durham office, designed by Hilary Sanderson for the 2016 Great North Snowdogs Trail.
- ‘Summer Flowers’ Elmer – Found in the Gosforth office, designed by Emily Ward for the 2019 Elmer’s Great North Parade.
- ‘Ram-bler’ Shaun – Resides in the Penrith office, created by Evelyn Sinclair for the 2023 Shaun the Sheep on the Tyne Art Trail.
